AMx36: optical, multiturn, accurate, miniature, what else?

AMx36 is not merely the multiturn version of the newly launched ASx36 singleturn absolute encoder you read about in our March's newsletter. It is the essence of measuring technology and is able to combine high performances with minimum size. It is optical, multiturn and miniature in the same time, in the same still rugged enclosure. AMx36 is really the smallest encoder with true geared multiturn and non-contact optical scanning ever developed by Lika Electronic.
The core of the unit is the advanced optical sensing technology safely housed inside the industrial 36-mm case. Restrained space does not limit the overall capabilities. AMx36 is able to attain high resolutions up to 19 bits singleturn (524288 counts per rev.) and 12 bits multiturn (4096 rev.) and impressive accuracy even at highest speeds coming up to ± 0,01° (± 36 arc seconds) at 16-bit resolution. In addition it does not require batteries.
Mechanically it features a miniature aluminium enclosure with 36 mm flange diameter and both solid and hollow shaft types in stainless steel (6 mm diameter available for both shaft versions!). When installation space is constricted -such as in small motors or medical applications- it proves to be a great advantage! Despite its small size, AMx36 still ensures IP67-rated protection (IP65 at shaft side) and unparalleled resistance to large temperature fluctuations (up to -40°C +100°C / -40°F +212°F).
AMx36 is offered with both synchronous serial interface (SSI) and all-digital BISS-C interface for high operating speeds, improved protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and enhanced bi-directional communication for subsequent controllers. Cable and M12 inline connector outputs provide additional benefit to suit the most common drives. Zero setting, preset and counting direction input functions along with protection against reverse polarity and short-circuit further complete the available electrical configuration.
Because of the high resolution and the ultra-miniature size, AMx36 encoder is ideally suited for installation in the most advanced automation systems requiring accurate real-time position and speed feedback and even in applications suffering from limited space. Typical application fields are small motors and especially highly dynamic servomotors including product handling equipment, pick & place robots, electronic assembly systems, printing and measuring machines, electro-medical and laboratory instruments, geared limit switches in wind turbines; furthermore its compact dimensions are pretty much the same as typical size 21 resolvers, thus AMx36 is ideally suited to replace them both in installation and retrofit yet encompassing superior operation performances and features.
COMING SOON AMx36 absolute encoder is going to be integrated into a new draw wire unit, the project is actually under development at Lika. The mechanical design is intended to be simple and affordable and have very small footprint in order to be set up in the smallest location and mounted in a few minutes with uncomplicated procedures.
