SMRA is the new absolute rotary encoder which is suitable to meet the most demanding requirements, even in the heavy industry thanks to the very small and space-saving sensor and a wide choice of rings for direct installation in large diameter shafts (up to 380 mm / 15”). It comes in two models and offers a great deal of key features to enhance the capabilities of any specific industrial application.
SMRA is able to combine in one package the advantages of the bearingless design with the benefits of the contactless and wear-free magnetic scanning. This results in a reliable measuring system affording high immunity to contaminants and virtually maintenance-free enduring service even under harsh conditions and in continuous operation. It mounts neither bearings nor components subject to wear or fatigue for dependable trouble-free and long-lasting working life; furthermore it does not require couplings, reducing sleeves or additional mounting accessories, thus installation is facilitated and sped up. The robust construction and encapsulated electronics guarantee high IP67 protection rate and great resistance to dust, humidity, oil, grease, water jets and chemical agents. In addition the non-contacting design and the magnetic sensing technology allow it to withstand great shocks and vibrations. The working temperature range is between -25°C +85°C, -13°F +185°F. SMRA is further designed to save space and ease integration thanks to the minimum sensing head foot-print and the shallow ring (20-mm depth only). Thus it can be installed directly in any shaft and even when the space is highly constrained.
SMRA splits into two models. For most demanding applications that require a high performance and precision position & motion control solution such as torque motors, synchronous generators in direct drive wind turbines, rotary indexing tables as well as large hollow and solid shaft motors in general SMRAH model delivers the absolute position value with a 16-bit resolution (additionally up to 18 bits) through SSI and BiSS-C interfaces. It can fit two magnetic ring sizes having up to either 80-mm (3.15”) or 180-mm (7.09”) inner diameter (~105 mm / 4.13” and ~210 mm / 8.27” outer diameter respectively). SMRAL model is the absolute encoder designed to maximise ease of installation thanks to the very large mechanical tolerances (up to 2,5 mm / 0.098” !) between the sensor and the magnetic surface. It offers a choice of magnetic rings it can be coupled to: up to 80-mm / 3.15” inner diameter (~105 mm / 4.13” outer diameter) for 13-bit resolution version; up to 180-mm / 7.09” inner diameter (~210 mm / 8.27” outer diameter) for 14-bit resolution version; and up to 380-mm / 15” inner diameter (~410 mm / 16.1” outer diameter) for 15-bit resolution version. Also SMRAL model is available with SSI and BiSS-C interfaces. It is ideally suited for installation in large hollow and solid shaft motors, robotics, textile and wood, metal & stone working machineries, packaging lines, electro-medical instruments, mobile equipment.
All SMRA absolute bearingless encoders are equipped with built-in LEDs which provide diagnostic information (activity and status/error) and further help during installation signalling out of tolerance alignment positions. Small foot-print, versatility and inexpensiveness make SMRA also ideal for redundant applications.
