Core of the elevator system is the motor used to raise and lower the elevator car.
Gearless traction motor technology has brought about rapid changes within the elevator industry. A few reasons for its increased popularity include the ability of longer travels up to the tallest buildings; higher mechanical and electrical efficiency; elimination of parts and thus reduced physical size that allows for smaller machine room or machine-room-less (MRL) installations; and low overall maintenance.
Gearless motors require rugged, vibration-resistant, high-accuracy and precision as well as long service life encoders for improving the car comfort and reducing the maintenance costs, at the highest safety levels. Most of all, they need compact encoders, especially for MRL installations.

CB59, CB60 and CB61 are the affordable incremental encoders expressly designed for reliable speed and position feedback in servomotors and especially gearless motors. They feature a space-saving and flat design with compact 58-mm flange diameter housing in both solid and hollow shaft configurations. CB59 comes in 12.7- and 15-mm blind hollow shaft and 42-mm only low profile; while CB60 and CB61 are offered with 10-mm diameter 1:10 taper shaft for absolutely backlash-free and torsionally rigid mating. The shaft rotational speed is up to 12000 rpm. Furthermore they are claimed to provide a variety of simple and quick yet sturdy coupling solutions by means of front and rear fixing plates for maximum safety and minimum time loss.
These 5VDC optical encoders produce 2048 PPR sinusoidal signals phase-shifted by 90 electrical degrees having an amplitude of typically 1Vpp for speed feedback. Analogue sine and cosine incremental signals are safe and reliable and can be highly interpolated by the external electronics as the highest resolution is needed for control of a gearless application with a slow shaft speed, especially during gentle stopping and levelling at landings. Even better this further results in a great advantage in highly dynamic motion applications. Thus people can always enjoy quiet and smooth ride and every single movement is performed the safest and comfortable way, without exception. The maximum output frequency is up to 300 kHz. Moreover, a C-D absolute track is generated to learn the position of the motor poles as the start-up of gearless motors requires accurate detection of rotor and stator position.
CB59, CB60 and CB61 encoders are insensitive to EMI thanks to the optical technology and always provide accurate signals which are not susceptible to electrical noise. They are equipped with shielded twisted pair cables and are also available with the most common controller connectors. In accordance with Lika's high-quality standards, they only fit selected superior components and are inspected one by one before delivery ensuring they can operate safely and reliably throughout the lifetime of the lift.
