Whenever your encoder application must cope with high demanding and noisy operating environments yet there is the need for strong, clear, secure and reliable data transmission, even over very long distances, then the new IF60 optical fiber modules from Lika Electronic are the most effective choice to solve such relevant problems. They are expressly designed to transmit incremental and SSI encoder signals using multimode optical fiber cables and are ideally suited to replace the traditional metal communication systems when they lose. Fiber optics really provides superior characteristics and significant advantages over metallic cables. Optical fiber lines permit faster transmission at high bandwidths without suffering degradation or loss of data, even over long distances and are immune to electromagnetic (EMI) and radio frequency (RFI) interference, adverse temperature and moisture conditions. Furthermore because optical cables carry no current they are safe to use in explosive environments and eliminate the risks of short circuits. Thus fiber optics enhances both transmission quality and capacity and allows for safe and reliable transmissions, thriving in harsh and hazardous environments such as in wind turbines, solar photovoltaic farms, steel mills, oil rigs, gas & mining industry, marine installations, military/aerospace/avionic applications, medical & surgical equipment.
IF60 basically consists of a transmitter (which converts the electrical signal to a light signal), a receiver (which converts the light signal back to an electrical signal) and a multimode optical fiber cable (the medium for carrying the light signal) and comes in two models: IF60/IF61 for incremental signals transmission and IF62/IF63 for SSI signals transmission.
IF60/IF61 modules are suitable for transmission of single-ended / differential signals delivered by either Line Driver/RS-422 (5VDC/10-30VDC) or Push-Pull (10-30VDC) incremental encoders and sensors. They use risk-free light emitting diodes (LEDs) which operate at 850 nm and 1300 nm wavelength. Thus the transmission distance limits are up to 2000 m (approx. 6,500 ft) at 850 nm wavelength; and up to 3000 m (approx. 10,000 ft) at 1300 nm wavelength. IF60 transmitter provides four inputs for signals having a max. data rate of 2 Mbit/s at a max. input frequency of 1 MHz. As stated, multimode fiber optic cables are used. Lika Electronic supplies fiber optic cable assemblies having either 50/125 micrometers or 62.5/125 micrometers core diameter and 9-mm ST connectors. The max. optical transmission rate is 120 Mbit/s. On the receiver side, four outputs are provided to supply Line Driver/RS-422 (5VDC/10-30VDC) or Push-Pull (10-30VDC) differential signals to the subsequent electronics.
IF62/IF63 modules are ideally suited for use with absolute encoders equipped with Synchronous Serial Interface (SSI), featuring a max. 25-bit resolution. The input / output level is Line Driver/RS-422 (5VDC/10-30VDC) and the max. supported clock frequency is 500 kHz. As twin IF60 model, IF62 uses risk-free light emitting diodes (LEDs) which operate at 840 nm infrared wavelength. The transmission distance limit is 1500 m (approx. 5,000 ft). Optical fiber cables are multimode type cables and have either 50/125 micrometers or 62.5/125 micrometers core diameter. The max. optical transmission rate is 120 Mbit/s. Complete cable assemblies for required lengths are supplied by Lika. IF62/IF63 models further provide complete diagnostic information through frontal LEDs and the additional alarm output.
All modules are protected against reverse polarity while the outputs are conditionally short-circuit-proof.
Power supply can be either 5VDC or 10-30VDC. IF60 modules come in a compact and sturdy plastic enclosure fitted with DIN rail mounting brackets.
