IF30: solving your analog-to-digital interpolation & conversion issues

IF30 is an industrial analog-to-digital interpolating converter. It is expressly designed to convert analog signals delivered by any 1Vpp standard level sinusoidal encoder to digital quadrature output signals in both TTL/RS-422 and HTL format. Furthermore, thanks the selectable interpolation factors, it can greatly increase by up to 50 times the resolution of the input signals before delivering to the most common digital controllers.
Sinusoidal input signals (SIN, COS and REF signals with differential outputs) have a standard 1Vpp amplitude and a max. frequency of 400 kHz. Before digitizing, sine-cosine signals can be interpolated using adjustable interpolation factors from x5 to x50. In this way the unit can generate up to 50 square-wave pulses per each sine period. Independently of the selected interpolation rate, an edge distance minimum time (from 25ns to 1600ns) can be set in order to limit the output frequency to a desired maximum value. Furthermore, IF30 is equipped with both a programmable frequency filter to limit the bandwidth of the input signals and minimize the interferences; and a glitch filter to reduce the noise and the jitter which could affect the output signals.
Interpolated sinusoidal signals are then squared off and converted into both standard Line Driver signals (TTL 5V/RS-422, AB0, /AB0) and Push-Pull signals (HTL 10-30V, AB0, having an amplitude proportional to the power supply voltage level) at the same time; digital signals are delivered through OUT1 and OUT2 respectively. In this way IF30 can be intended as a signal splitter too. Anyway one output or both outputs may be used at a time, according to the application requirements.
The maximum output frequency is 4 MHz when using the TTL/RS-422 output; and approximately 100 kHz with HTL output. When requested, the output frequency can be reduced by setting a selectable dividing factor ranging between 1:1 and 1:128.
IF30 further boasts several additional benefits to best fit specific requirements. They include diagnosis functions to check whether the unit is working properly. Faults and errors such as a communication failure, a wire breakage or an excessive attenuation of the input signals are signaled both by the ERROR digital control output (switching to HIGH logic level in case of error) and visually by a yellow front LED which lights up solidly. They can be reset by means of the small button on the top of the unit or by using a remote reset signal. In addition, the unit provides a short-circuit-proof auxiliary output voltage line having either 5.2V or approx. 20V selectable level to supply the encoder.
The unit can be easily configured by means of two DIL switches located on the top and the bottom of the enclosure. Two Sub-D connectors are intended to accept the input sinusoidal signals and to output the quadrature signals.
Standard DIN-rail mounting design provides maximum flexibility and quick, easy installation.
