SMEX2: NEW INCREMENTAL LINEAR SENSORS WITH INTEGRATED LIMIT SWITCHES

Specifically designed for position feedback in linear motors and dynamic precision motion systems, new non-contact SMEx2 incremental linear sensors boast high quality and outstanding dependability as exemplified by performance with increased accuracy at high travel speeds and rugged design with immunity to dirt, debris and environmental factors. Furthermore, the versatile design allows for a quick and easy installation, with a maintenance-free operation at a competitive cost. Featuring a robust aluminum housing with new fully integrated miniaturized circuitry, the new series has an IP67-rated protection against environmental factors including oil, grease, water jets, common chemical agents and the finest of dust particles. Moreover, they are able to handle extreme shock and vibration impacts as well as large temperature fluctuations. The SMEx2’s non-contact operation also provides wear-free operation and ensures unparalleled reliability over time, making them the better and lower cost alternative to the more delicate and higher priced optical linear sensors and transducers.
Lika's sensors use an advanced magneto-resistive sensor for producing impressive accuracy even at highest speeds, low modulation rates and superb signal output clarity. Moreover, the new magnetic system provides liberal mounting tolerances and enables a gap between the sensor and the magnetic scale of up to 2 mm (0.079in) allowing for unparalleled ease of installation in comparison to optical sensors, while still maintaining dependable operation and high performance characteristics.
The SMEx2 sensors generate square wave output signals and additional complementary signals (AB, /AB as well as Index at each pole, on request) and are offered in standard industry either Push-Pull (HTL) 10-30VDC or Line-Driver (TTL) 5VDC output circuits with a resolution up to 0.5 µm. The maximum operating speed is up to 8 m/s (26.25 ft/s). SMEx2 encoders are further equipped with three integral sensors for detecting the “0” position reference mark (as an alternative to Index signal) and two limit switches for upper and lower limits that may be installed at the preferred location along the scale. Four LEDs are mounted exhibiting proper installation and operation diagnostics, 0 reference mark and limit switches.
Lika Electronic's sensors are supplied with a polymer/ferrite composite magnetically encoded scale which is highly immune to dirt, debris and external contaminants and can be easily applied / removed via a pre-applied self-adhesive backing. Sensor wipers are available for debris removal from the magnetic surface ensuring a clear path of motion. Additionally, new sensors incorporate new high-flex cabling specifically suited for use in cable track applications, with approved testing and rating for more than 1 million cycles.
