SMI5 Selector is the newest addition to Lika's range of incremental linear sensors.
It encompasses a unique 25 x 8.5 x 15 mm (0.98 x 0.33 x 0.59”) sensor head (it is as small as a 5 cent EURO or USD coin) protected by a rugged metal housing and is able to handle extreme shock and vibration impacts as well as large temperature fluctuations (operating temperature range is between -25°C +85°C, -13°F +185°F). The dust-tight and waterproof design is IP68-rated thus it is fully resistant to oil, grease, immersion in water and common chemical contaminants. SMI5 Selector uses an advanced dual element magneto-resistive sensor for producing impressive accuracy even at highest speeds, low modulation rates and superb signal output clarity. It provides liberal mounting tolerances and enables a gap between the sensor and the magnetic substrate of up to 2 mm (0.079”) allowing for unparalleled ease of installation, while still maintaining dependable operation and high performance characteristics. The advanced conversion circuitry is fitted in the encapsulated connector and features automatic gain control (AGC) and automatic offset correction (AOC) functions for improved signal quality, minimization of the sub-divisional error (SDE) and negligible hysteresis. The non-contact magnetic technology also provides virtually wear & maintenance-free operation, eliminates interference from machine vibrations, delivers insulation protection against damages caused by eddy currents and prevents the mechanical loadings from being transmitted to the sensing system. These features ensure unparalleled reliability over time and longer operating life. The sensor generates square wave output signals and additional complementary signals (ABI, /ABI) and is offered in standard industry either Push-Pull (HTL) 10-30VDC or Line-Driver (TTL) 5VDC / 10-30VDC output circuits. As its name implies, the resolutions is selectable in the range 5 to 50 µm through the rotary selection switch provided in the connector housing; in this way it can suit the specific needs of almost any application. The maximum mechanical speed is up to 16 m/s – 52,49 ft/s. SMI5 Selector is further equipped with two integral diagnostic LEDs to signal errors.
SMI5 Selector is offered along with twin SMI2 Selector model featuring selectable resolutions from 2 to 20 µm.
Selector series sensors can be mounted on linear scales (MT series in both 2-mm and 5-mm pole lengths) and magnetic rings (MRI series in both 2-mm and 5-mm pole lengths) to easily fit linear and rotary applications, according to needs. Polymer/ferrite composite magnetically encoded scales can be easily applied / removed via a pre-applied self-adhesive backing while magnetic rings are available with 31 to 284-mm outer diameter (shaft diameter on request). Scales and rings are both highly immune to dirt and external contaminants. Lika’s sensors incorporate high-flex cabling specifically suited for use in cable track applications.
